How To Make Cold Calling Fun!


Well those are three words you don’t often see together….


Surely it can’t be possible?!

Sales people in reality¬†will always need to cold call. It’s an effective way to generate new business opportunities and even with the rise in social selling it will still have a significant place in the sales industry.

So if we have to cold call, why can’t we find ways to make it more fun?

Here are my top 10 tips to make cold calling more fun (which if you do, you should increase your sales and success as well!):

  1. Create the right environment. It will be more difficult to make cold calling fun if you’re in a quiet office with people watching you call! If you can have some music on in the background or have somewhere just for cold calling it will help you get in the zone without distraction.

  2. Walk the talk. If you have a wireless headset or mobile, walking around while talking has been proven to help both your cold calls and your fitness! Some companies even target how far you can walk across a day while cold calling.

  3. Smile and Dial! Smiling while talking on the phone not only makes you sound clearer and more positive, it also makes it more enjoyable. Have a sense of humor, feel like it’s fun and that you’re happy calling your prospect.

  4. Feel 110% confident on what you’re doing. If you’re cold calling you’ll enjoy it more if you know exactly what you’re calling for and what you want to achieve. Be confident in what you’re selling and how it can benefit the person you’re calling. You’ll feel better about what you’re doing and come across better to the prospect.

  5. Stay in the zone. Cold calling is far more effective if you’re focused and not distracted. Block out time and stay in the zone when calling. You’ll create momentum and can build on each call, where as distractions may take you off the right path.

  6. Reward yourself. It may be a break after you make every 50 calls, it could be a Starbucks coffee if you hit your target. Find ways to incentivize and reward yourself.

  7. Positive people = positive calls. Make sure your in a positive environment surrounded by positive people. If you have negative moaning people around you, it might catch on to you. If you’re in a focused, motivated and buzzing office your calls will be better and more fun!

  8. Don’t feel bad. It’s easy to sympathize with your prospects or feel bad about bothering people. If you feel defeat before you even make the call, how will you succeed! Feel good about why you’re phoning them, feel like you’re on a personal message to help people.

  9. Water off a ducks back. If the call doesn’t go well, they say no or you mess your pitch, don’t worry about it. Let is go like water does on a ducks back. Learn from it and move onto the next call! Not every call will go 100%, just keep trying until you get it right.

  10. Look for buried treasure! If you’ve got 100 calls to make, think of it like a treasure map. One of those calls could unlock the biggest sales opportunity of your life, and the only way you’ll be able to find it is by phoning them all!
